I don't use the clock as a clock only to play music. Like everything in the room, we're all going to have varying opinions. Is any one factor enough to switch brands over? Do they, in aggregate, make up a non-trivial part of the overall stay experience? Ok so thats how you charge. Feather versus foam pillow, separate stall shower versus tub with curtain, water pressure, soap/shampoo amenities, towel/sheet quality, carpet condition, etc. But you can say that about every individual aspect of stay. Switch brands over the clock radio? Wow, that would be something. For me, personally, I find the Hilton clocks annoying and frustrating, and this really struck me when I started using something significantly better. Instead, I carry an iPod Firewire cable, so to charge it I plug it into my laptop. I carry enough electronic parts with me, I don't carry a separate iPod power adapter.

So when you say "a lot" i'm not sure how many other brands have branded mp3 units. At the Starwood properties I've stayed at, zilch! I was recently at a Marriott property visiting a friend and there was no clock/mp3 radio.

Hilton at least has something to hook you ipod up to. I only stay at Hilton and Starwood properties. Is this be something to make me switch brands? No. Isn't that what you do? The clock for my needs is fine. I just charge my ipod while its plugged in. But I do care a lot about the functionality and ease of use, especially being able to charge and control the iPod, and easily adjust the wake time. I tend to find that Bose makes products that are adequate but overprices. Note that I don't care if the devices are Bose or not. I tend to find that Bose makes products that are adequate but overpriced. By contrast, the Hilton clock radios have only the mp3 player jack, so they do not charge the iPod and cannot control the device. There is also a standard mp3 player jack for non-iPod devices. Controls on the clock radio itself can be used to control the iPod. By contrast, the Hilton clock radios have small, difficult adjustments that only let you move the time forwards, so if you overshoot you have to go all the way around.Īlso, the Bose devices are true iPod docks, which charge the iPod as well as play it. These dials are simple and intuitive, and let you go backwards as well as forwards. The Bose devices are much easier to use, with large dials on the top to adjust the alarm wake time or tuning. You can get The Sharper Image Clock Radio Dock for the iPhone or iPod for about $99.99 on The Sharper Image site.Having been staying at a few non-Hiltons recently, I am really struck by just how backward the Hilton mp3 clock radio devices are.Ī lot of hotels now provide Bose clock radios that are also iPod docks. By the way, the remote has a snooze/nap button, which will make it easy to sleep through the alarm, doesn’t it? Of course, it does come with a handy remote control, that does include the battery. It is powered by two AA batteries (not included) or AC power, and the sound is to be expected from 2 inch speakers with 6 watts each. It also features a dual alarm and an auto off timer and nap feature that you can set 15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes.

With this Sharper Image Clock Radio, the user can wake up to the radio or some custom playlist, or just the usual beep tone. And what could be more practical for life in the new millennium than an dock for the iPod or iPhone? Especially one that can double as an alarm clock. I believe that part of Sharper Image’s re-launch is to make electronic products that are not only neat looking, but practical. I had a clock radio that was beside my bed all throughout the eighties, and this new Sharper Image Clock Radio dock for the iPod and iPhone reminds me of it.
